Subject: Reprogramming all 800 radios on the Grand Forks System
URGENT NOTICE, PLEASE READ THIS LETTER!
THE FCC HAS ORDERED A RECONFIGURATION OF THE 800 MHZ BAND. THIS IS BEING DONE IN A RESPONSE TO ALLEVIATE INTERFERENCE BETWEEN NEXTEL, PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCIES, AND PRIVATE BUSINESS.
The reconfiguration process requires Stones Mobile Radio to vacate the frequencies that have been reassigned to Public Safety or NPSPAC.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU? This reconfiguration will require Stones Mobile Radio to reprogram all radios that utilize the Grand Forks 800 SMR System. THIS WILL BE COMPLETED AT NO COST TO YOU. The FCC has mandated that Nextel pay for all costs associated with this process.
We hope to start this process in December or January. This obviously creates a problem for some customers, especially farmers. It will be very difficult, if not impossible to get at, or get to some of the radios tucked away in Quonsets and pole barns. IN ORDER TO REPROGRAM YOUR RADIOS WITHIN THE FCC GUIDELINES, WE NEED YOUR HELP. WE ARE ASKING YOU TO PULL YOUR RADIOS OUT OF YOUR EQUIPMENT, AS YOU PUT THEM AWAY FOR THE SEASON. WE WILL COME OUT TO YOUR LOCATION AND REPROGRAM YOUR RADIOS. Set them aside in your shop or garage and we will make arrangements to come out this winter.
I would also recommend after you have removed all your radios, to do an inventory of all your portables, mobiles and base stations. Then call us to verify that the number of radios you have coincides with our records. This will alleviate trying to find radios that did not get pulled out in the middle of winter. If there are any radios that do not get reprogrammed, they will not work on the system.
Your help will ensure that all radios get reprogrammed this winter, so your radios will be ready to go next spring.
Thank you,
Paul Haen
